Happy heavenly birthday to Stanley Kubrick, who made some excellent movies but Eyes Wide Shut definitely ain’t one of them.
Hack was so annoyed that most of his novels depicted Jonny as a lady’s man who was constantly getting laid that he wrote this to remind him how precarious that reputation was. But since all the book’s sex scenes were between dogs, it only sold to small niche audience, most of who were confined to federal sex crime prisons.
Moon Day (aka National Moon Walk Day) is actually meant to commemorate the first moonwalk by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (we’ll also give a shoutout to Michael Collins, the third member of the crew who had to stay in the lunar module during the entire mission). But with the shape the country’s in, Hack thought this was a more pertinent way to mark the holiday.
And while we’re at it, happy heavenly birthday to Natalie Wood!
When CBS cancelled Stephen Colbert’s popular talk show because of what appeared to any reasonable person to be political pressure, Hack was so P.O.’d that he immediately wrote this manuscript. It’s one of his angriest books, and that’s a bold statement.
Happy heavenly birthday to the legendary James Cagney!
